Brown Baggin' it
-
So the new work environment leaves a bit to be desired. I'm stationed NOT in Manhattan, but at the shop just outside of the city. They say "eventually" I will have an office in the NY office, but for the first 6 months or so, I'll be doing the reverse commute. Yuck.
So, that brings me to a little subject I call lunch. In Manhattan, there are choices everywhere and I've gotten used to that! Will it be Chinese or Indian today? Chopt salad or Soupman? Pizza or sushi? At my new area? Korean deli or Ghetto Deli? Hmmmm. It looks like I may be brown baggin it out of necessity rather than budget.

Update
-
My baby tuned one last week. I started a working at a company with benefits. Ekat interviews for a summer research group next week. T goes to Florida yet again.
Lots going on here, which is why I am not so consistant about writing a post. Hope you don't mind.
Well, here's the update for the summer: Ekat will go visit Gramma & Grampa on the ranch for 3 weeks, come back here for a science camp (another 3 weeks), spend a week lounging at Aunt Colette & Uncle Dave's pool, and the final cherry will be a family vacation to San Diego at the end of August. Max will have a fun time hanging with Abby, Roni, Lilly, Maine, Sophie, and Shalom at Margie's house (daycare), Terrence will contimue to work his @ss off at FL, and I will get used to my new position. All of us are looking forward to the San Diego vacation. Nothing like a little sun and fun on the West Coast.

Life after freelance
-
If I haven't told you yet, I got a job. I'm very excited about this as I've been trying to get the company I've been freelancing with to hire me FOR A LONG TIME . However, they have missed the boat. I got hired by another company that is looking to expand into display and events. It's a great opportunity and I'm really looking forward to it. (this is Eliza writing while my mom is with Max right now, the only thing I know is that this new job only allows her 2 weeks of vacation every YEAR! That sucks!) *Ahem* (Eliza get off my computer!)
Back to all about me. So I start on May 13th, the day after finishing up a huge project for the previous company. Everyone told me to build into the schedule some down time. Well, I didn't manage to do that, so it is what it is. Hopefully I won't be too exhausted and the first day or two will be all about getting me acclimated.
BTW, my kids are great! Eliza is looking forward to a summer filled with travel and learning. A couple weeks with Grandma & Grandpa on the ranch, a couple weeks at a science camp, and a couple of free weeks to spend lounging at Aunt Colette & Uncle Dave's pool. Oh yes, and one of my two weeks of vacation will be spent in San Diego at the end of the summer. Max is walking, talking and generally doing a good job at getting his point across. His birthday is next week. I can't believe it's been a whole year already. Is it just me or is time flying by faster these days?

Why do all the cool kids live in California?
-
I've found two new blogs I'm fond of, and the bloggers live somewhere in CA. And my good friend just moved there from Manhattan. Oh, I miss her!
Making Things Up
Happinest
I must be feeling a little homesick for Oregon lately. I find myself fondly remembering yards with gardens, trips to the grocery store, and camping in the Redwoods. Hmmm, maybe a camping trip is in order soon.

Making Ends Meet

Personal finance has been on my mind. I've been reading many blogs about finance, net worth, savings, etc. My personal favoites are SingleMa's Fabulous Financials and Make Love Not Debt. (also on my blogroll.) All this talk because we REALLY want to own our own place. And not just anywhere, but, here in Manhattan.
This week our rental management company finally had some workers come and paint the bathroom. Wow, is it ever so much better! The steam valve had been broken for so long that it encouraged mildew and mold to grow on every wall and much of the ceiling. To make a long story short, they finally fixed all that stuff in the bathroom, but it got me thinking about how much I wanted to change much about my apartment (especially the lack of washer/dryer!) and so that set us all off in the direction of buying a place to call our own and being able to put a W/D in it. Not to mention dishwasher. And Eliza wants her own floor and moped (ha!). So, I guess that means we want to buy a brownstone...
So, now back to the personal finance thing. We are going to have to save a lot of money to make this dream happen. I've been meaning to put us on a financial diet for a while, but now, perhaps we will actually have the will power to make it stick.
Wish us luck!

Back to Full Time Work
-
So I guess it's back to work for me. I just got confirmation that my next project will be 4 or 5 days a week until the end of May. My fun time being a stay at home mom is over... at least until June. Actually, it's good news cause I was going just a tad bit stir crazy. T can tell you!
I've had such a good time hanging with M and E these past 10 months! I have checked out all the cool new mom spots on the UWS, gone to the lunches, hung out in the park, museums, coffee shops, other mom's homes, and watching and experiencing all of M's "firsts". It's also been cool to be home when E is back from school. This is the first year that she has EVER been able to just GO HOME after school. She even opted not to do much in the way of afterschool activities. It's phenomenal how fast time flies, but I feel like it was time well spent.
There were other things I wanted to tackle but didn't (or haven't)... budget, diet, date night... hmmm, I guess those are works in progress!

Living Space
-
I was going to post about this the other day and somehow forgot. It seems a little irrelevent now that I am over my frustration. Although, it's a very real reoccuring issue... but, I'm going to keep the big picture in mind - HOME OWNERSHIP. this apartment is just a phase. It's just a phase.
A phase I wish I were through already! Ugh.

NY Aquarium
-
On Saturday we went on a trip with Eliza’s school to the NY Aquarium on Coney Island. It was actually a lot of fun. Eliza spent most of the time with her friends, but we did manage to catch up with her a few times. LOL.
Coney Island was pretty empty since the amusement park is closed. The boardwalk was nice though. Windy, cold, but nice. T & I took the stroller down by the beach, and Max slept the entire time. He missed the seeing the ocean, but I’m sure he heard it in his dreams.
I'm going to try to post some pictures from this on the gallery. If I'm successful, I'll put a link in here.

Keeping in Touch is Good for the Soul
-
I’m starting this blog with this in mind. I want to keep in touch better with friends and family. We are so spread out and so much happens that I forget to share. This should be good.
It’s also about keeping track of my life. It is going so fast, it’s hard to remember… so an online journal is a good idea, right!?? I’ll try to keep it clean. I’ll also try to share without getting to nervous about who’s reading.
I may also try to keep track of a few things that inspire me. I may, on occasion, talk about knitting, or babies, or childbirth, or theater, or dieting, or finances, or a set I’ve worked on, or handbags, or a new restaurant, or… now that I think about it, you may never know what will come out of this blogging journal. Hey, I’m looking forward to it.
As always, please feel free to comment or email me. Even though I am nervous about your feedback, I’m also excited! Bring it on.
So let this be the beginning of a beautiful blogging experience.

the start of something good
-
I've been reading a bunch of other people's blogs to see what's out there and get a lttle inspiration. I'm such a newbie and am tad overwhelmed when I think about how to manage this. It seems like blogging is a lot like writing a journal OUT LOUD. A little scary, as I'm really a private person, I don't tend to share my views on religion, politics, or parenting (among other things!) with many people. My husband even occasionally asks me "who ARE you?" LOL. Well, I guess here's the start to something new, different, i.e. good. Maybe we'll all discover who WE are...
Also, as far as I have managed to figure out, this site has capabilites to manage up to 15 blogs, so if you want one, let me know!
